Welcome to the newly expanded USY Chapter Grants. The goal of our entire grants program is to help expand and enhance the USY teen and youth engagement that you are able to do locally at your chapter (or in partnership with other chapters. This year we have three different kinds of grants that you can apply for; LEAP (Local Engagement and Partnership) grants, STEP (Synagogue Teen Enhanced Programming) grants, and HOST (Hosting of Synagogue Teens) grants. In addition to the expanded grants, we also have more resources for you centrally than ever before to help you determine what to grant fund or what programs to run. We encourage you to feel free to reach out to any of the directors listed above to gain ideas on how you can use the grant funding to really expand your USY programming locally.
STEP (Synagogue Teen Enhanced Programming) grants: These are microgrants in the amount of $180 intended to enhance already existing programming that you are doing for teens or youth at your synagogue. These grants are intended to be a simple go to source for that little something extra that can top off a program and make it special. We have made the grant application for this grant very short and easy (two questions) with the intention to be able to help support as many different synagogues in the already existing programming that exists. These grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. We will try to respond within two weeks of receiving these completed grant applications.
LEAP (Local Engagement and Partnership) grants: Are available during two rounds (a Fall/Winter round and a Winter/Spring round). LEAP grants can be awarded in amounts of up to $1800 and are intended to help you increase engagement in one of three ways; support a one time innovative program, support an ongoing innovative program initiative, or help provide staff support. For these grants we are looking for new and innovative ideas as well as new potential. These are also great opportunities to partner together with other synagogues or chapters in the area to really gain a full impact. The first round of these grants opened in August and closed 10/1 with grants awarded by the end of October. The second round opened on November 27th and will close on January 9th with grants being awarded by the end of January.
HOST (Hosting of Synagogue Teens) grants: These are the grants to support multi chapter synagogue hosted overnight events. These grants will be available in three different categories with growing amounts of money available based on the length of the event. These grants are intended to have multiple synagogue or chapters come together for overnight events. A lock-in can receive $500 in funding, a one night, plus one day (24 hour event) can receive $500 plus an additional $10/teen, and a two or more night event can receive $1000 plus an additional $25/teen. These grants are available on a rolling basis throughout the year. We will try to respond within two weeks of receiving these completed grant applications.
