Screamin’ Scott Simon: Musical Director and Pianist/Vocalist of
Sha Na Na, the ’50’s Revival Band
Hosted 97 Episodes of the “Sha Na Na” Variety Television Series
Former President KCUSY, Editor Emtza Region Ruach Newsletter, EMTZA Region President
The last 50+ years I’ve been pianist/vocalist and Musical Director of Sha Na Na, the ’50’s revival band that debuted at Woodstock, played over 1,000 live concerts since then, and appeared as Johnny Casino & The Gamblers in the movie Grease and performed six songs on the Grammy-nominated multi-multi-platinum soundtrack of the movie. I co-wrote the song “Sandy” that John Travolta sings in that movie, as well as wrote many other songs for many other productions. I also hosted 97 episodes of their self-titled “Sha Na Na” variety television series.
The combination of the intensity of music and movement first appeared to me in the wild abandon of USYers dancing the hora while singing “KADIMA USY.” That kind of pure energy translated well to the rock stage, where, as Screamin’ Scott, I have performed show-stoppers like “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” to cap our live shows. Let the energy run wild! RUACH!!!
